PhD position: TITUS: Telexistence In Through-life engineering Services

Cranfield University, Grenoble University and dstl are seeking a top class candidate to undertake research leading to PhD awarded. The thesis will be driven by John Erkoyuncu from Cranfield with Samuel Court in collaboration with G-SCOP in Grenoble (co-advisor Fr. Noël).

Project Description

Telexistence provides a means to complete maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities remotely that have the risk of causing physical injury and harm to the maintainer, or the by the same method, exceed the normal human capabilities of the individual with physical augmentation able to deal with increased loads without additional human manpower.  Combined with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, this research seeks to develop novel methods for state-of-the-art remote virtual reality simulation for digital-twin robotic avatars.

Marco Sacco is a contributor for LAVAL VIRTUAL Magazine – VR/AR IN HEALTH

VR/AR IN HEALTH – LAVAL VIRTUAL Magazine 2020: an edition dedicated to the use of VR or AR in the healthcare industry, including well-being, handicap, and medicine. EuroVR President, Marco Sacco is one of the contributors of the new edition of Laval Virtual Magazine, with the article: “Smart and Human-Centered Living Environments lab”

“The use of VR/AR technologies has grown in many fields; one of the most important is the healthcare sector, in which the technologies are employed to support the rehabilitation process by making the interventions more engaging, controllable and ecological [1]. VR/AR applications can help people with motor or cognitive disabilities to continue their rehabilitation path at home, also after de-hospitalization, following a “ continuity of care” paradigm.”  (page 45)

The magazine had been presented, April 23 during the Laval Virtual World.

The Virtual Event was a success, structured as an island, where more than 6,500 visitors had the possibility to attend conferences, business meetings and the award ceremony.

PhD position: Virtual Reconstruction of the Acoustics of Paris’ Notre-Dame Cathedral

PhD Position opening for the reconstruction of the acoustic heritage of Notre-Dame Cathedral through historically informed simulations. The project is funded by the “Chantier CNRS Notre-Dame”, and will be carried out in collaboration with national and international research projects related to the Cathedral.

When we think of the great architectural achievements of history, such as the Gothic cathedrals, their importance is strongly linked to their acoustic environment. The acoustics of a heritage site is an intangible result of its construction and its tangible layout. We will explore how, through measurements, research, and virtual reconstructions, the acoustics of one of the most remarkable heritage spaces in France can be documented, reconstructed, and experienced. The focus is on the preservation and digital reconstruction of a heritage site, bringing it back from the ashes by examining its evolution and importance in history.

Laval Virtual World 2020

Facing the spread of the Covid-19 virus, this year the “Laval Virtual World” will be held virtually, from 22nd to 24th April 2020, the conferences, the Awards ceremony, the business meetings will take place and where the contents of Recto VRso, the Art and Virtual Reality Festival, will be presented!

Get inspired by the most influential speakers, the most relevant brands, the best vanguardist artists, and keep meeting and exchanging with key stakeholders from the VR/AR community in meeting rooms or one of our relaxing areas.

The Laval Virtual exhibition is for all of those who wish to develop a greater depth of understanding and expertise in immersive technologies, integrate them into their value chain and predict their development. For the better organization of this Laval Virtual World, it is therefore essential to offer the widest possible access, an ergonomic making it easy to use, and many possibilities of networking (chats, live discussions, private areas, etc.).

For this “virtual” 22nd edition, Laval Virtual asserts its expertise and its role as a facilitator in virtual reality with 6 conference cycles: VRtical, TransVRsal, ConVRgence, Virtual World, Art and Tech Talk. A complete and visionnary programme with speakers and experts from all around the world.

Meeting the network: LabLENI – Universidad Politécnica de Valencia

Today the category “Meeting the network” brings us to Valencia, Spain, were in 1990, a small group of researchers and Ph.D. students created LabLENI.

LabLENI, guided by Professor Mariano Alcañiz, Institute Director and Founder, (among the 10 authors with the highest number of publications worldwide under the topic virtual reality) joined EuroVR Association in 2018 for enhance VR/AR activities around Europe.

The Laboratory of Immersive Neurotechnologies carries out research activities for a better understanding and enhancement of human cognition, combining insights and methods from computer science, psychology and neuroscience. They also develop solutions to support real-life studies and interventions, rather than for use in laboratory settings only.
